My life was never the same after those forty-eight agonizing hours.
With these startling words, Veronique Boulet Ellison begins a tale of long-kept family secrets, days and nights of fear, supreme injustice, great love, incredible sacrifice, personal loss, priceless hidden art, and her dream to reclaim her heritage.
Please fulfill a dying woman’s request, Veronique pleads. Be my Monuments woman, Anne. Go to Paris. Locate and reclaim the paintings Mother hid from the Germans during the Occupation. Find the art the Nazis plundered from our home on July 17, 1942, during a mass roundup of Parisian Jews; the same night she began her final journey—to the death camp at Auschwitz.
Following vague clues from Veronique’s worn leather-bound journal and a cryptic poem left by her great-grandmother, Anne French begins her quest to find the missing paintings. During her search she faces overwhelming obstacles, great personal danger, and crushing betrayal. As the mystery deepens and Anne uncovers startling truths about her grandmother and great-grandmother, she begins to question assumptions and expectations she’s made about her own life.
The fifth of Port’s novels, Full Circle is historical fiction fraught with mystery, intrigue, memories of the past, and hopes for the future.

FULL CIRCLE is full of surprises -of the plot variety, and with so many predictable plot-lines served up to the reading public these days, it's a real treat to be surprised. Port has done extensive research to under-gird the historical elements of the novel and isn't afraid to provide the reader with the engaging and sometimes sordid details. It seems to be the fashion in fiction these days to rush from scene to scene, creating one contrived perilous situation after another to hook the reader. Ultimately this strategy proves boring and unsatisfying. Ann Port respects readers too much to do that. Her narrative proceeds at a leisurely pace, allowing time to savor situations, settings, characters, and historical details, as well as to reflect on the multiple mysteries as they are uncovered. The perils she describes are not manipulative but real. There's plenty here for art and architecture lovers, World War II buffs, people interested in Jewish-Christian relations, food and fine dining enthusiasts, and Francophiles in general.Product details

Reading FULL CIRCLE is like being taken on a scenic tour of Paris in the present day, with a birds eye view of life during the worst days of WW2.
In fullfilling her grandmothers request to research the Nazi theft of priceless art from HER mothers home, Anne French gets involved in more than she bargained for in more ways than one!
It's a story of family love both in the present day and in the tumult of the early 1940's. It's a story of defiance in both time periods. It's a story of loss and discovery, suspense and emotion mixed with an awesome blend of Impressionistic art.
The only thing that keeps this book from being a 5 star is that it seemed that the ending was too neatly wrapped up in a bow ...a good ending... but a wee bit unrealistic?
great read!
This was a very good story about the conditions in Paris during the was for the Jewish people who lived there . I enjoyed the book.
